Indian Coastal Supper Club

Updated: Dec 6

Just a few nights before the much-anticipated Midsummer’s Day, Asha Pai Sethi and her husband, Naresh, took it upon themselves to host a truly fabulous Indian Coastal Extravaganza dinner that would leave a lasting impression on all their guests. The evening was meticulously planned, with every detail carefully curated to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of India's coastal regions. The food, all served on dazzlingly fresh banana leaves sourced from the renowned Fortnum & Mason, not only looked scrumptious but also added an authentic touch to the dining experience, enhancing the vibrant colors and aromas of the dishes.

Asha, known for her culinary prowess, poured her heart and soul into preparing an array of mouthwatering dishes that showcased the diverse flavors of coastal Indian cuisine. Each dish was crafted with precision, from fragrant fish curries to spicy prawn masalas, all bursting with the essence of the sea. However, the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Malabar pepper fry, a spicy and aromatic dish that was expertly made by Vidhu. This particular dish held a special place in the hearts of the guests, especially Rudy, who had a deep fondness for it. It was so beloved that it even found its way into our cherished cookbook, a testament to its popularity and the joy it brought to our gatherings.

As the evening unfolded, guests were not only treated to a feast for the senses but also to an unforgettable entertainment experience. One of the standout moments of the night was the auctioned dance performance by Naresh Sethi and Kunal Goklany, which sparked laughter and excitement among the attendees. The atmosphere was electric as the audience eagerly placed their bids, fully aware that they were not just bidding on a dance but also on a memorable experience that would be talked about for years to come. The day after, Asha humorously recounted the evening’s events in her notes, saying, “Last night, we auctioned off everything we could. I, along with Vidhu and Som, auctioned off my husband!! Just kidding. Only his dancing skills!” This light-hearted remark perfectly captured the spirit of the evening, filled with joy and camaraderie.

In addition to the lively auction, the evening was enriched by the graceful dance performance of the beautiful Gayatri Kamath, whose movements captivated the audience and added a layer of elegance to the festivities. Her performance was a celebration of culture and artistry, leaving guests in awe of her talent. Further musical moments were provided by the talented Rajat Somany, who strummed his guitar with skillful finesse, accompanied by Meeta Sagar’s melodious voice. Together, they created a harmonious atmosphere, with Naresh Sethi joining in to sing along, creating a delightful blend of music that resonated throughout the evening.

Overall, the Indian Coastal Extravaganza dinner was not just a meal but a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and creativity, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a longing for the next gathering.
